"Go In This Thy Might"
Judges 6:11-31
In this Scripture we see the story of Gideon, a man who stood out from all others. Not because he possessed great wealth, nor because he had any position of authority. Not even for past accomplishments of great renown. Rather, simply because he was willing to stand for God. To stand like no other. To stand when no other would stand with him, not even his own family! He walked in the old ways that were despised and mocked by all others. He led his household and influenced them through the path he chose to walk, and the way that he walked it. His actions, seen every day, read of all men, were enough to set him apart from everyone else. When he destroyed the place and the instruments of the idolatry of the townspeople, at the bidding of the Lord, they had no trouble at all discerning who would do such a thing! They knew who was capable of such an act.
Oh, to be known as one so sold out to God, so willing to fly in the face of religious revelers, willing to risk your own life, if needs be, to honor God and decry the watering down of the true worship of the Living God!!!
When God called him to deliver Israel, he protested that God had delivered them into the hands of the Midianites in the first place. The Lord said,
"Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the
Midianites:" The might He spoke of was Gideons knowledge that Israel had justly been punished for turning from God. Knowledge is an awesome thing! Gideons next objection was that he was a nobody. God simply said,
Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man. If God is on our side, there is no enemy we cannot overcome! No matter how lowly we are, nor how powerless we feel, if God has called, He will equip, and there is no victory that cannot be won through Him.
The key is so simple. Know God. Know Him in His fullness. Know Him in truth. Know Him deeply and intimately. It will take far more than a superficial knowledge, and more frequent visitation than just going to church on Sundays. Knowledge of the Lord is our might and our strength. Knowledge of the Lord is our power.
Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing gives us the knowledge we need.
Friend, will you determine in your heart today to know God so well that you will stand out from the crowd? Are you willing to be known as one who would do whatever God called upon you to do? Know this; that if you will sell out to God completely you will find that you can
Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save
