"We Need the Rain, Lord"

I have been dwelling much on the words of John the Baptist, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord..." (John 1:23) I really identify with this message. I have been impressed very heavily recently about the day in which we live. Jesus told us we would be able to discern the time. "So Likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors." (Matthew 24:33 ) One of the Scriptures I have been heavily meditating upon most recently has been Zechariah 10:1, "Ask ye of the Lord rain in the time of the latter rain..."

If you recall when Daniel was studying the Scripture and discovered that the time for the fulfillment of God’s promised deliverance had come, he began to pray in earnest. The time of our promised deliverance is at hand, and we need to pray also, asking the Lord to send the promised latter rain. We need the rain. Oh how we need the rain! We need that promised outpouring of the Holy Ghost to enable us to carry out the Great Commission in this, God’s day. My heart is heavy as I observe the complacency of so many in our churches today. There seems to be so little concern for the lost. Our souls are thirsty and dry, and we need the rain, but we are not crying for the rain. In the natural, if we were in the midst of a very long drought and water was being rationed and crops dying in the fields, our churches would be full of people seeking the face of God for the needed rain. Our present need is far more grave than this, for we need spiritual rain desperately. But no one seems much concerned about it. No revival ever came without prayer and repentance!! God wants to send the rain, we need the rain, the Spirit of God stands ready at this hour to give the rain, and the only thing lacking is the prayers of the saints of God. Friend, fellow-laborer in the vineyard of the Lord, won’t you join me in praying for the promised blessed latter rain? Let us, in concert, every place where the name of Christ is named, begin to pray earnestly for this great need and wait with great expectation for that which we know He will faithfully do.

"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?" Numbers 23:19

God in Heaven above, let the promised rain begin to fall, for we wait with thirsty souls for Thee. Drench our thirsty souls with your promised blessing from above. Lord, send the rain, even now.
